Ergonomic Design

The Ergonomics & Human Factors HF Group of CETENA has built up quite an experience with the ergonomics of naval vessels, through research programs and consultancy. The Group has cooperated at the ergonomic design of a number of vessels built by FINCANTIERI, such as the offshore patrol vessels NUMC, the Gotland ferry, the Horizon frigate.

Cooperatyion with cruise ship designers and the Fsculty of Architecture of the University of Genoa has helped creating experience regarding the ergonomic aspects of the design of passenger ships.

The HF Group can therefore provide a support in the design of on board human spaces, both working and leisure spaces. As far as navy ships are concerned, advice can be offered concerning positioning of human machine interfaces, layout of space and lighting in working areas, and on the best arrangement of leisure areas. As far as cruise/passenger ships are concerned, advice on layout, colour, lighting, can be given, with special attention to safety-related aspects.

Evacuation studies and the definition of escape paths can be carried out.
