Vulnerability Assessment

The software package S.A.V.I.U.S. (Sistema per l'Analisi della Vulnerabilità Integrato per le Unità di Superficie / Integrated System for the Vulnerability Analysis of Surface Vessels), jointly developed with the Italian Navy, allows the assessment of naval vessels' vulnerability.

S.A.V.I.U.S. can be used since the preliminary design stage to evaluate the vessel's vulnerability with respect to:

• surface threats (internal and external blast, fragmentation)
• underwater threats (shock and whipping)

For each ship mission,a S.A.V.I.U.S. analysis allows to:

• quantitatively assess the impact of different design solutions (systems layout and general arrangement) on the vessel's vulnerability as well as the adequacy of items protection and hardening
• evaluate if design requirements have been achieved and maintained during the ship life
• integrate planning and reduction of costs
