Research is an important contribution to the competitiveness of Companies and Organisations and CETENA has been involved in research activities since its foundation in 1962, with important national and international research programmes.
It is a member of ITTC (International Towing Tank Conference), ISSC (International Ship and Offshore Structures Congress), ECMAR ASSOCIATION (European Cooperation in Maritime Research), CRS (Cooperative Research Ship) and AIRI (Italian Association for Industrial Research.
Research is the groundwork of Company know-how and special attention has been devoted to the needs of the maritime industry: shipbuilders, shipowners and maritime operators.
CETENA integrates its knowledge in a wide range of activities, going from hydrodynamics to ship structures and materials, from noise and vibrations to ship survivability.

CETENA is actively involved in several projects in Europe and Italy:
Funded by the European Commission:
SONIC - Suppression Of underwater Noise Induced by Cavitation (started on October 2012)
MOSAIC - Materials On board: Steel Advancement and Integrated Composites (started on September 2012)
